Another Project of your Civic Improvement Association!

The Building of A Community Complex

The last successfully completed project of the CIA was the building of The Prince of Wales Cultural & Recreation Centre. Several major organizations had been preparing plans for new structures, so the opportunity existed for them to work together on one joint project that would include facilities that may not otherwise have been cost effective to build on their own. Construction on the Complex commenced on April 27, 2001. The complex opened in early 2003. The CIA operated the complex until it was fully paid for, and a capital account for operating shortfalls, and capital improvements or repairs of $250,000.00 was in place. In 2012 the building, along with the capital account was transferred to the Town of Assiniboia.

There are key elements that are necessary for any healthy community to thrive. The POW encompasses the following elements: Education, Recreation, The Arts, Entertainment, Business, Service Clubs and the Efficiency of Co-operation. The Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association has been vital to the strength of our community by building such a beautiful complex, and donating it to the Town.

Facts and Figures

The Complex cost was $5,500,000.00 furnished. Over $4,300,000.00 had been raised and committed to the project by November 2002. The Complex was fully paid for in 2010.

The official sod turning ceremony for the Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre was held in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, on April 27, 2001. This was a great day for our town. Prince Charles' visit to Assiniboia was a monumental occasion for our community. The Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre, includes the Assiniboia branch of the Palliser Regional Library, Assiniboia Curling Arena, Olympia Theatre for movies and a performing arts centre & gymnasium.
